Gordon J. Sinclair
Gordon received " a "Performing and Creative Arts Award, Visual
Arts, City of Edmonton" for "outstanding contributions to the
cultural life of Edmonton.
A Charter Member (1931) of the Alberta Society of Artists,
Gordon Sinclair painted landscapes and occasional portraits,
primarily in oils. He was instrumental in the 1939 establishment of
the Athabasca Falls camp at Mile 22 of the Jasper - Lake Louise
Highway, which was used for nine years by members of the Society.
During this time, he produced many expressive mountain paintings.
In 1942, Sinclair represented the A.S.A. at the organizational
meeting of the Federation of Canadian Artists, forerunner of the
Canada Council. He continued as an active member, acting as
Vice-President in 1960-61, and for his work for the society was
designated a Life Member.
Sinclair was also a member of the Edmonton Art Club. I
