Horst is largely self taught, but has attended numerous courses,

travelled to Europe regularly to study the visual arts and visit
major museums, sculpture collections and sculpture parks in western
and southern Europe.
In 2006 Horst travelled for five weeks in France to study the
history of sculpture from prehistoric to the present time. Among
the many places he visited were Vezelay in Burgundy, The Meaght
Foundation near Nice, Vaison la Romaine in Provence, Albi near
Toulose, Zadkine Museum in Les Arques, the prehistoric caves of
Lascauz, Oleron-Ste-Marie in Pyrenees, The Neolithic Stone
Monuments in Brittany, The Chateaux in the Loire Valley and major
museums and sculpture studios in Paris.
Horst is influenced by ancient figurative sculpture, which is often
scarred and incomplete, and by sculpture of the nineteenth and
twentieth century.
